  The member of the Supervisory Board (SB) of Teleradio-Moldova Larisa Calugaru believes that the current SB president Nicolae Spataru and secretary of this monitoring structure Tatiana Munteanu, should resign because they do several jobs simultaneously. The Independent Journalism Center nominated the winners of the media literacy video contest, organized during the Media Literacy Week 2019. The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 13, in an atmosphere full of positive emotions. The students participating in the contest had their teachers and parents by their side, who were involved in the activities of the second edition of the Media Literacy Week and came to support them.

In Chisinau was launched the third edition of the prestigious international World Press Photo exhibition, organized by the ‘World Press Photo’ Foundation from the Netherlands, in partnership with the Independent Journalism Center, with the support of the Embassy Office of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The event took place on Thursday, 21 November, at the National Museum of History of Moldova.

Media NGOs call on the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the context of the statements made by the President of the Parliamentary Committee for National Security, Defense and Public Order, Chiril Motpan, about the wiretaps of a number of experts, journalists and activists from different fields, to confirm or refute the information on the spinning of media representatives.  We call on the General Prosecutor’s Office, which announced that it took note of these statements, to conduct an objective investigation and to act transparently.

Chiril Motpan, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for National Security, Defense and Public Order, stated on 22 November, during a press conference at the Parliament that the phones of several journalists and representatives of civil society in the Republic of Moldova would have been intercepted by the representatives of the law enforcement bodies or by paramilitary structures. The MP mentioned that democratic government ordered to wiretap them.

On 19 November, the Independent Journalism Centre (IJC) hosted, at Media Hub, a meeting with the co-founder and head of digital of the Slovak newspaper and news website Dennik N, Tomas Bella. The journalists and media managers from Chisinau had the opportunity to discuss the monetization methods used by the portal, as well as the international trends of media financing.

During 15-17 November 2019, the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) held the first media literacy training program outside Chisinau. The training that took place in Balti was attended by 24 teachers who teach in Russian, from the northern districts of Moldova.   The course trainers were Loretta Handrabura, PhD in Philology, and Natalia Griu, Chief Consultant at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, two of the authors of ‘Media Education’ curricula and textbook, at the primary education level.

The Independent Journalism Centre (IJC) continues the series of lessons at the Academy of Public Administration on access to information and the transparency of the decision-making process. During the second course that took place on Monday, 11 November, the new civil servants from the local public authorities were trained by Tatiana Puiu, Expert in media law, and Representative of Freedom House in Moldova, and Nicolae Cuschevici, RISE Moldova journalist.

The examination of the files submitted for the position of ‘Teleradio-Moldova’ PI Executive Director was held in camera. During the meeting of 5 November, with seven votes in favor and one against, the Supervisory Board (SB) of ‘Teleradio-Moldova’ voted for the examination of this issue on the agenda without the media being present. The current ‘Teleradio-Moldova’ Executive Director Olga Bordeianu, the journalist and politician Ion Terguta and the TRM employee Cornelia Stefoglu applied for the contest.
